Alt Webserver over IIS

By BorgInva ·
I use XPSP2 with IIS 5.1 on it. Does anyone know of a FREE webserver I can use over IIS that will allow the same functions, if not more, and allows the use of counters from Frontpage 2k3?

I have to wonder why you want to do this...

However, you have a broad selection of webservers you could install which are free, from Apache to JigSaw and dozens in between.

The majority of these were originally designed for the UNIX/Linux platform and then ported to Windows.
This generally means that they may be somewhat slower than IIS in a Windows environment.

As to using FrontPage extensions, these are available for a selection of other webservers but only on the Linux platform.
The only Frontpage extensions available for a Windows Server platform (available from Microsoft) are for ..... IIS.

If you are only intending to use Frontpage extensions for counters, you may want to consider rewriting these pages where counters are applied and use non-Frontpage technology.

Still, I am curious why you want to move away from IIS but stay within the Windows environment...?

Usually if you run Apache and IIS together it takes some finessing to get them to work well together. Using different ports, etc. Competing technologies seem to not like working on the same box. IE MySql and Mssql.
