AntiVirus for IM Users on my network

Is there an antivirus software that is proven effective in scanning instant messenger clients for viruses? The number of IM users are growing on my network, I need to protect my network. Should I consider the Corporate version of Symantec Antivirus that I currently use as sufficient?
