AntiVirus Opinions Needed

Hey,

We are currently using McAfee, our agreement is almost up so we may be in the market for a change.

Just wondering what others use and what your experiences have been.

McAfee seems to work well and is fairly simple to implement, use and maintain.

Their support however has been less than stellar as far as I am concerned. It often takes weeks to get things resolved.

Not looking for links to AV sites, a couple of review sites would be OK as long as you put some of your experiences with the sites.. I am looking for pros, cons and things to watch out for in your experience when using different AV products and their support.

Well my answer would depend on how big a network you are trying to protect and the setup.

If you could add a comment to the above I'm sure that you'll get a much better range of first hand experiences that are suitable for your needs.

Hey,

We run over 30 servers (Windows 2000 & 2003 Server) and around 800 workstations (Windows 200 & Windows XP Pro).

McAfee is currently running on all of them.

I administer a network with 2 SBS2003 and 3 SBS 2000 with around 60 workstations, with 40 workstations in the same location, and the other 20 workstations in other cities.
I use e-trust from CA. My experience with this antivirus software is the best. (I used in my activities F-prot, Norton antivirus and AVG, but non of these offer to me the same secure like e-trust)

I've been using symantec AV Corporate edition (corporate IT decision) but I've found it to be stable with only a few known bugs.
Of course as with any of the large AV vendors, they are more of a target than smaller ones.
I particularily like the MMC interface for administering AV (60 servers and 400 desktops).
You can do installs, upgrades, virus sweeps, definition pushes etc from a single location as long as you have administrative rights on the boxes.

I recommend that you take a look at Panda.

I have been evaluating their security suite, and am very impressed.

If anything, the suite is a little too aggressive, at least when it comes to the privacy protection.

One thing I really like, is that I get updates to the virus database at least once a day.

I haven't compared site costs, but will not be using either McAfee or Norton again anytime soon.

In addition to Panda and eTrust, you might also take a look at Trend.

I have seen fewer system problems with all 3 of them as compared to McAfee and Norton.
