antivirus.com CAUSED my PE MAGISTR.B?

By vickidsign ·
"IT" virus info website says that the source of PE_MAGISTR.B virus is, in fact, Trend Micro-sourced!!!So that's how I got it? I am supposedly being HELPED by P-cillin 2000 to quarantine these files, but are they a hoax? Am I really damaging my harddrive by allowing them to scan my files? What should I do? I did a virus scan with www.antivirus.com, had no viruses, then got so-called "help" from someone, and now I have 17 infected files thatr p-cillin says they quarantined...did not give me clean or delete as an option. Why are they still allowed to call themselves antivirus if they are the opposite? PLEASE HELP QUICK, I DON'T GET IT!

Hi,

Its doubtful that trend-micro actually gave you a virus. Possible, but very unlikely. I think you may have misunderstood what "sourced" meant!

For instance an article on PE_MAGISTR.B found at...

http://www.softmart.com/antivirus/magb.asp
(remove spaces in above URL)

...ends with...

"*Source: Article published with permission from Trend Micro."

But this doesn't mean that trend micro are the source of the virus!

I suspect that after the "help" you received, your virus checker actually picked up the files that were infected - and up until that point you were blissfully ignorant of them.

I'd say you're in a better position now, not a worse one. Dont panic!

Cheers,
Tim

I agree that I too doubt that they would send you a virus, apperently the hoax was the virus and you opened it before checking, now that you have the virus, reference the microsoft posted email from last week, check the manufacturer for a fix
Hope you get it clean before to much damage is done
