Anyone heard of a 64 Bit Windows 7

By HAL 9000 Moderator ·
Generic HPGL driver

The device in question is a Computer Controlled Vinyl Cutter I imagine as the person who asked makes Vinyl Decals for Cars boats and the like and his insurance company while willing to replace the damaged computer is not coming at replacing the rest of the equipment which doesn't work with the newly supplied computer.

It was just a general query as I have given him several other options but I couldn't find any driver to suit if there is one.

edited to add By the way the HPGL 2 Driver is not suitable I've already checked that one out.

Nope ... I haven't ...

by Rob Kuhn In reply to Anyone heard of a 64 Bit ...

My wife and I have a Roland CAMM-1 cutter that we bought back in 2005. We bought it for fun, arts and craft, etc. Not meant to be any sort of money generating revenue.

Anyway I've never been able to locate any 64 bit printer drivers for mine either. For this reason I have to keep a 32-bit OS (Windows XP in this case) around.

I know this wasn't an actual answer to your question other than to say that I ran into the same issue.

FWIW, the software that our Roland came with and the other software that we use, fortunately, does run under the 64-bit Windows 7 (one of them I have to run in compatibility mode) so I can at least save the files and use them on the computer that drives the cutter.

Best of luck!

I found one link,

this driver doesn't look to be freeware, however. There are links to retailers,
even for you folks "down under"!

Wow! $199 !! But at least they provide a demo/trial version to test and see if works first. :) Thanks for the link!

Work-Around?

Col,

Found this on a Windows Forum page:

Installing Older "Unsupported" Large Format HP Printers on W7 x64

You know the drill, replace the space with a dot

Found this on another forum:

Searching on HP website we've found updated drivers for Windows 7 which match HP-GL/2 specifications. As long as we could test until now on producing PDF plot sheets it works fine.

Windows 7, 32 bits:
ftp://ftp.hp com/pub/softlib/software11/COL25754/pl-66249-3/hpdj510wumglen.exe

Windows 7, 64 bits:
ftp://ftp.hp com/pub/softlib/software11/COL25756/pl-66260-3/hpdj510wx64glen.exe

Install it regularly as a new printer.

I did also find code in MSDN for a generic HPGL/2 plotter driver.

http://code.msdn.microsoft com/windowshardware/MSPLOT-Plotter-Driver-c6b9a98b/view/SourceCode

Might be enough details in the related articles to get a more specific driver created.

Chas
