AOL MAIN.IDX Details

by anthonymcse . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

Hi, I have a client (a private investigator) who is trying to recover evidence of Cyber Stalking by recovering emails to use as evidence. The emails were received using AOL 5.0. The file main.idx in AOL is the primary cache file, which may possibleycontain copies of these email messages my client needs as proof.

Is there anyway to decrypt the main.idx file? I really don’t need the password I know is stored there, but would like to be able to recreate emails (both undeleted and deleted) that could be in there.

If anybody has a clue, or even another direction I could take, that would be great! If this file has some super duper encryption, that would be useful as well so I don’t waste time on this track.

Thanks,

Anthony
