apparent improper service..need help!

a drop off tower..can’t access hispeed DSL..patient underwent diag.&disc wipe etc.from “reputable firm”…no longer access to ethernet connector…apps&drivers notloaded?
cable guy/sideshow ,in basement,says no way!
havent even fired it up yet….is it worth messing with at all?…or is the guy right?
