Archive deletes messages on Outlook XP

By mfukushige ·
I keep losing path to archive folder on Outlook XP. File > Archive to run manual archive to reestablish the path. This seems to delete messages instead of archiving regardless of the date older than. I would rather drag and drop old messages to archive folder now after automated process started to screw me up. I cannot even see the folder to drop to, but if ran manually, it seems to delete messages. Please advise.

When you archive from Outlook, a path displays. Archiving removes the messages from the current .pst file and moves them to a file that is normally called archive.pst. Review the path carfully when you chose to archive. It is also a good idea to rename the file from archive to something else (like the date) or else you could be overwriting the archive each time you attempt this.

The default path Outlook uses for archive is:
c:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

If you need to search for your archive, you may need to change your folder options to show hidden files and folders.
