Go to http://www.nebs.com
Click on Labels and then Tuff Sheild
These are highly durable labels that can be work with any type of numbering system.

They are very helpful and can advise you as to software as well.

Good luck.

Word of advice. Make sure the numbers on the tags are LARGE enough to read without having to get down on the floor to see them. I made this mistake.

We developed our own asset management system with Microsoft Access. It could do you well visit www.hotfiles.com and search on Inventory or Inventory Management. There are quite a few programs out there to choose from and some are very reasonably priced.

Asset tagging is good, asset tracking is better. Unfortunately it is also harder.

Consider what you will be doing with the information. What will you track, which assets, who is responsible for the initial entry, who is responsible for the maintenance, how will the information be used?

I like asset tags with bar codes, for future use. I also use an asset number which begins with a letter - people interpret it as 'friendlier' than a straight number.

I also integrate the asset management information with the help desk system so I can track problem assets.

Overall, consider the following:

What assets will you track?
What information are you going to track?
Who is responsible for maintaining the system?
What information are you going to want out of the system?
Who will have access to the system?
