      Might be a hardware issue

How long have you owned the laptop? Could be a warranty issue. Did you have an issue that required a reinstall of Windows? Did those components ever work properly? Need more information.

      Not unexpected.

Windows 10 and for that matter all versions often have us hunt down drivers. This can confuse our newer techs but they catch on quick.

Sure enough I see Audio and Pointing Device Drivers at https://www.asus.com/supportonly/E200HA/HelpDesk_Download/

Again, nothing is wrong here unless you think Microsoft and the industry should have fixed this over the past DECADES.

      A quick solution

After upgrading to Windows 10 (64bit) my Asus e200ha wasn’t able to find the touchpad anymore. The system didn’t recognize it, even after downgrading all drivers again to the ones shipped with windows 8.1 by Asus.

I found out that my touchpad model is actually recognized as a ClickPad (Synaptics ClickPad 32-bit / 64-bit V8.2 & 16-Nov-2014). This seems only partially true since it’s not working like most ClickPads do with two-finger scrolling and tapping on the middle mouse click area does nothing except for one or two right clicks.

After googling around I found some interesting threads about using an older driver version than Windows ships with Synaptics TouchPad drivers 15.0 and 16.0 – ThinkPads Forum

The driver shipped with Windows 10 is using version 17: Synaptics Pointing Device Driver Version 17.0.14.3 (Windows 7/8/8.1 64 bit)

However, when installing this older version the touchpad will only work in combination with a laptop or USB mouse plugged in at the same time which will be used for cursor movement instead of the touchpad until you unplug it again once windows have booted up because after that there won’t be any cursor movements anymore without a wired mouse connected to the laptop! It seems like this happens because windows try to load some kind of initialization file but fails and then ignores all other input devices connected.

After some more googling I found out that there’s another version (15) of the Synaptics driver available which also uses the same installation files as version 16 does but this one is using a slightly different INF file to communicate with windows 10 resulting in an error saying that the inf file isn’t correct; it seems like there are two incompatible versions (v14 and v16) installed at the same time…

The only working solution for me was installing both drivers side by side:

Synaptics Pointing Device Driver Version 17.0.10.8 Synaptics Pointing Device Driver Version 15.3.29.1

Then I had to manually select the touchpad under devices every time after boot before using it.

Since Windows 10 now supports installing drivers through the device manager I tried doing things manually to get this working without much luck.

Unfortunately, there is no “update driver” functionality for touchpad drivers which might be another reason why Asus or Synaptics haven’t released an official driver update yet…

Download the proper drivers from the Manufacturer’s website based on the model of your laptop.
