When I install a network printer on an XP machine, I end up with the printer I installed, plus an identical printer with the label of "Auto...." Can anyone explain what this auto installed printer is all about? The only reference to this I could find on Microsoft's Knowledge Base was in reference to running Citrix, which I am not. Thanks for any info.

Most printers when attached are found by XP AUTOmaticly so when you installed the printer yours will be there and the one Xp found as well.
Delete the auto.
It,s funny cause you said network printer so i could take that as the printer could be connected to a print server and if that's the case then the AUTO should not appear. Because the AUTO has appeared i have to assume you connected directly
It happened to me yesterday when i installed a digital camera XP also installed the digital camera and as you would expect 2 lots of software.
