Automated Backup

By Venkatramaiah.sudarsan ·
Sometimes, during an automated backup in NT (using WINAT) i happen to notice that the backup has failed and no reason has been recorded in the event log.. My backup log file contains only one line Backup Status at times and not even that some other times.. What could be the reason?

Also let me know more abt these points.. Is it not possible for me to post questions here once i exhaust all the points?

Rgds

you get points just for logging to the site every day. everytime you answer a survey you get points. so just logon and answer surveys. while you are logged in, you could search the for your answer in case somebody else already spent the points for it...maybe even read up on how points are awarded (nudge, smile)...
what is your backup software? what is your error? how do you know backups have failed?

You also get points for sighning up for some of the TechMails.
I have found the information and article links in the Tech Mails to be very useful.

Possible causes for backup problems:

Tape jam

File access on the network when backup starts.

Path error.

It is even possible that some software install or patch instaled a different version of a DLL file that your backup software needs.

There is no tape jam.. I am able to use the same tape the next day morning and able to take the backup.. I am taking the backup from the same system and the files are not on netware and neither there is any path error...
