Backup Emulation Tool

By gary ·
Does anyone know of a standalone application that will emulate a range of tape devices?

For example, I'd like to be able to emulate a DLT tape drive on a server. I'd like the server to think that it has got a DLT tape drive installed but have the software 'grab' the backup data and put it somewhere on another disk.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Gary Williams.

EMC modifies disk array to emulate tape libraries

APRIL 05, 2004 (COMPUTERWORLD) - EMC Corp. today plans to announce a data-archiving device that offers the speed and file-level granularity of disk storage but looks like a tape library to application servers.

Too expensive? Well, at six-figures, I should say so.

Another "cheaper" option"

Certance brings virtual tape technology to the masses with its CP 3100 D2D2T (disk-to-disk-to-tape) device. It combines a 160-gigabyte SATA (Serial ATA) disk drive with a DAT (digital audiotape) drive to emulate a DAT autoloader, and is available in several packages, including disk-only versions that connect to your existing DDS4 (20/40) or DAT72 drive and models that integrate both disk and DAT72 tape drives. Certance even throws in a copy of Yosemite Technologies' TapeWare XE backup software.
