Backup Exec

By ebpl ·
Using Veritas Backup Exec 7.2 on an NT server, I have been successfully using the product for several months. Suddenly, I have an error message that some of the associated services cannot start because the database is missing! I have tried to manually start the services, to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks.

Reinstall over the top, or do a fresh install. I assume this is the Backup Exec database? Not a SQL agent database error.

Yeah I know, Veritas support is really bad. Too bad Seagate sold it... :*(

If you don't have a very complex setup, just suck it up, reinstall and reconfigure. You can always recatalog your tapes if you really need them. However, if you have a million scheduled jobs, read on. I know how much of a pain Backup Exec's schedulefeature can be to set up...

If you backed up the partition that has Backup Exec on it, do this. Reinstall a fresh copy of Backup Exec in a separate directory. Restore the entire Backup Exec directory to its original location. The database that's there already is either gone or hopelessly corrupted. Run the old Backup Exec, and you should recover. Backup Exec is dependent on a Jet database in the Backup Exec directory that holds all the program's information. Hopefully that's your only problem.

Unfortunatley for you your going to have to reinstall Backup Exec. On the the version your using it has been know to have problems. You can move up to 7.3 with no problem by using the same serial #'s. I am currently using 7.3 and migrating to 8. Good luck.
