Backup of Registry

By msfiroudis ·
Hi,
I have a nt 4.0 server. I would like to backup the registry. In case I need to restore the registry. I know you could make a ERD Diskette , but is that a backup of the whole registry or is that just a backup of some critical entries in the registry? I would like to backup the whole registry as in win98.. Thanks in advance...

The ERD diskette made with the RDISK /s command contains all the information needed to rebuild your server if it ever needs to be repaired. If you make changes to the server you should always update your ERD. The /s switch also backs up the security SAM information. If you wipe out registry entries you can initiate a repair session with the Win NT boot disk and fix them with a current ERD. Any changes you made after the ERD was created will be lost. Hope this helps.

Hi, Its the same like you do in win98 Export all of the registry & give it a file name. I do it once a month or after major software installatons on our servers.
ERDISK /s is also one option to be used i case NTLdr or other boot files get corrupted& you get the blue screen of death.

Run the BACKUP utility that comes with NT, select the files to be backed up from your drives, click backup and check the button against "Backup Local Registry".

Install a tape drive, and backup whatever you need to.
