Bad Install of Word 2000

I was trying to install Word (and Excel) 2000 on a computer with Word 97 (which I’ve done before w/o problem) — and everything was fine until the end when it “hourglassed” for 20 mins. Finally had to hard shut down! (Knew that was bad, but no other way.)

Now unable to run Word 2000, so tried to uninstall & reinstall 97. Neither worked. So tried scanreg /restore to previous registry. That didn’t work, either.

Short of formatting HD (REALLY don’t want to do that!!), is there anything else I can do? At this point, I’d be happy with either version.

I am at a loss — please respond w/yr suggestions.
