The Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit offers assistance in creating batch files that work with 2000. You can use this resource to help you create really fancy batch files. I found a quote for $48.99 at Amazon.

Or you could just write a batch file in notepad with the line:

cd\
ipconfig /release

and save the file to your desktop as: iprelease.bat

Just before you shutdown click the icon and your IP will be released. To test that the batch file worked, go to run and type in cmd, at the prompt type ipconfig. If you get a message that has no ip address in it you are good to go.
