Best of Luck to Bob in Calgary
Lockedby dmambo · about 16 years, 8 months ago
In a few days, our colleague, Bob in Calgary, will be undergoing some surgery. I’m sure that everyone here at TR wishes him the all the luck in the world for the procedure and for a speedy recovery.
We’ll be thinking of you, Bob. And many of us will be praying for the best results.
Have a frosty one on me when you’re well enough!

The proceedure that Bob is having is pretty complex.
I know that Bob is having some difficulty posting lately as they have taken him off medications in preperation for the surgery.
We look forward to “hearing” from him soon!

that you aren’t known as THE Mambo (famous in song and story coast to coast to coast to coast) for nuthin’ ’cause I was just thinking ’bout Bob today. Yesterday too, so you are just a little slow, but HEY! You still be THE Mambo!!
Seriously Bob, I have been thinking about you. It’s going to be a good thing for you! Whenever you decide you don’t need whoever/whatever I asked to watch out for you, send them back, if you don’t mind. I feel like I might say or do something stoopid at any moment.
Nah… keep ’em. Just fooling with you. I’m not alone out here. You’re not either.
THE Mambo is kind of odd though, if you ask me, and I mean that only in the best possible way but what is that? An offer for a frosty body shot or just what exactly? Not that there’s anything wrong with that!

Thanks everyone, Just a couple of days left and getting the final stuff sorted out, It seems weird to have to prepare for a long absence from work etc and at the same time get things sorted so that It is all taken care of in the case that I don’t come back, brings reality to the situation. Monday (when I have the Op) will be a long day, I get fitted with the frame (screwed into my skull) at 6:30 am MRI at 7 am preop 8:30 am surgery starts 9:30 am and will last about 12 hours, I’ll be fully conscious for the entire proceedure. Cindy and my kids have all taken the day off to be at the hospital for the entire surgery.
Anyway Thanks again for all the kind words and thoughts, You folks are awesome.
Cindy will email GG an update on how things go, and as soon as I can I’ll post and let you know The Borg has returned.
Take care everyone.

Stay off the Booze be constantly sober always have you home E-Mail client open and constantly check it remotely if necessary.
OH the responsibility with none of the fun how sad. Of course it means that you have to also avoid any potential harm till Bob is back so no ridding on Busses Trains or anything that you don’t personally own, no driving to close to things that you don’t own in case they explode, no stopping at traffic lights level crossings or anything similar just power through them so as to avoid stopping and being an Easy Target. :p
Perhaps it would be easier to have you assimilated so that the Collective can keep us all updated on Bob’s condition even if a few drowns are lost. 🙂
Oh the responsibility that you have willingly undertaken it’s so good of you o do this for all of use lowly grunts in your realm. :^0

Bob ignore what the doctors are saying
by hal 9000 · about 16 years, 8 months ago
In reply to Thanks
They have to tell you that for Legal Reasons so you don’t sue their ass off if it doesn’t work out as well as expected. Really this is fairly a straight forward procedure though fairly uncomfortable for the participant who has that cage bolted to their head to prevent them from moving during the procedure.
While it’s not the most fun procedure to undergo it’s by no means the worse either at least you get to listen to the Quacks so you know when they Stuff Up and you have a slight hope of identifying all those masked people standing around where as if they where giving you a general you wouldn’t even know when they took you into the OR.
You can be like me the last time I was in the Hospital they handed me the bill and I refused to pay as I said I didn’t go there for a movie so why was I being charge to go to the Theatre? They didn’t put on any decent live shown or movies so I wasn’t paying end of story.
Of course there are a few people insisting that when they brought me out of the general I was insisting that I Had a Pain in My D Drive though I have no independent wittiness to this so I think that someone is attempting to pull my leg. I know I’m pretty far gone but I don’t think I’m quite that far gone yet. 😀
Anyway chin up Chest Out and Give Them Hell while in the MRI insist that you get claustrophobic and demand to be removed run your hand up any female nurses legs at every opportunity and generally misbehave. They may have you trapped but that no reason to Give in to the Bastards Make them earn their money.
Remember that you have to Grow Old Disgracefully and anything less is a Cop out!

Update 06:30 BST 12 July
by gadgetgirl · about 16 years, 8 months ago
In reply to Best of Luck to Bob in Calgary
Hi all, did the auto check this morning to find an email from the man himself!
All is ok so far – he’s had the first part of the surgery: has a wire down the thallmus, with the remainder sticking out of the skull. His doctor is pleased with the progress so far and the rest of the computerised parts will be implanted on Thursday, so he hopes to be out of hospital on Friday. The added bonus is that the tremors have temporarily disappeared for the time being.
He sends his thanks to all for their concern, and also for all the good vibes he’s been receiving (it’s working, guys!)
All in all, it’s “so far, so good”.
I’m emailing him back later to let him know we’re all behind him, and we’re all wishing him well for Thursday.
More news when I get it, promise!
(In a rush now: had to autocheck before getting ready for work, now running late!!)
