best of the year

By apotheon ·
Is there a "best post of the year" thingie here at TR? Should there be?

I was inspired to ask about this by a post someone made: http://tinyurl.com/6t2fd

I swear this isn't just because it was in response to me. In any case, it seems like a "best post of 200x" thingie might be appropriate for TR. Perhaps, over the course of a year (starting on January First), people can nominate posts. Then, at midnight after December 31st, all nominations cease.

Through the month of January, then, votes could be cast for posts that had been nominated for the previous year, and on February Second (for instance) the results can be made public, perhaps with a front-paged headline. Yes?

What do you think?

Of course, since mine is the only post that has been nominated for 2004, I'd be a shoe-in for the Best of 2004 award. Heh.

In any case, if this is taken up with enthusiasm, some quick code would have to be written in a hurry to get at least the nomination procedure in place by January First of 2005. I'm not sure whether including a link with every post for "nominate me", or something like that, would be a good idea or a bad idea.

I think that you should be nominated for this one -

...regarding your definition of the Whistler project. LOL :)

Whistler = Also known as NT 5.1, the supposed successor to Windows 2000 (NT 5.0): it's the "merging" of Chicago and Win32 based architectures. This merging was, apparently, accomplished by smacking the two together repeatedly, and with great force, until the resultant gravel appeared to be reasonably homogenous. apotheon

I also think that this is a great idea. Anything that will promote the TR family will definitely ensure a stronger tech base.

Initially, this will help to keep our current peers at TR, and it will eventually apply to newer members as well.

I think that there should be more novelties like this on TR. An excellent idea. We should also suggest other things as well, while we are on the novelty topic.

Thanks! I'd forgotten about that.

It's a pity that Microsoft didn't though!

That's a really great idea but we would have to make a list as the year goes on so that the Peers could vote for it at the end of the year a bit like the "Top Geek" that we had I think last year.
