Best Practices for E-commerce Website Development

    Locked

    by ewanmacgregoruk ·

    Hi everyone!
I’m currently working on improving the website for my webshop selling kilts. I’d love to hear from others in the community. What are the best practices you’ve found for developing a user-friendly, high-converting e-commerce website?

We’ve already focused on product photography and a simple checkout process, but I’m looking for more insights into optimizing site speed, enhancing mobile experience, or any tools/plugins that have worked well for you. Any advice on making our site even better for customers would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

It’s your dog food. You’re eating it so it must be good enough for everyone else.

It’s great that you’re already focusing on key areas like product photography and simple checkout! For a high-converting e-commerce website, here are some additional best practices you can consider:
By improving site speed, mobile responsiveness, and user-friendly navigation, you can further enhance the overall customer experience and increase conversions. Good luck with your webshop.
Optimize Speed: Use a CDN, compress images, enable caching, and minimize HTTP requests to improve load times.
Enhance Mobile Experience: Make your site responsive, simplify navigation, and optimize checkout for mobile.
Boost Conversion: Add product reviews, use urgency tactics (e.g., “Limited stock”), and provide easy access to support.
Use Plugins/Tools: Try SEO tools (Yoast), personalized recommendations, email marketing (Mailchimp), and cart recovery tools.
Streamline UX: Simplify navigation, have clear CTAs, and show shipping info upfront.
A/B Testing: Use Google Optimize or Optimizely to test and improve key pages.

Make sure your site is mobile-friendly with a responsive design. For conversions, adding customer reviews, a live chat feature, and exit-intent popups can help. Shopify or WooCommerce plugins like NitroPack or WP Rocket can boost performance too.

For a high-converting e-commerce website, focus on speed optimization (using a CDN, image compression), mobile responsiveness, and a smooth checkout process to reduce cart abandonment. Implement SEO best practices, including structured data and internal linking, while enhancing trust with customer reviews and security badges.
