Best smartphone if I really only use my phone to text and listen to music?

I had an iPhone 5 for the past 8 years. It recently completely broke down and the phone store said I have to buy a whole new phone. I figured it didn’t matter, so I bought a used iPhone 6 for about $60 USD. Well, the phone was a lemon to begin with and now the SIM card slot is burnt out after only having it for 2 months. I need to buy a new phone again (they said to change the part would be $50 USD, almost the price of the phone to begin with).

I really only use my phone to text people with Line, Facebook Messenger, or Instagram. I take pictures sometimes, but I don’t care about the quality as long as the picture is clear. I just want a phone that I can buy and use for another 8 years without thinking about it. I don’t care if it’s slow or anything as long as it works. Anyone have any tips on the cheapest option that would have a decent life? I’m used to using Apple, but Android would work too.

If you are considering an Android phone, look into the Samsung A series devices. These are more economical smart phones from Samsung than the S series. Not very likely to find any phone today that will last 8 years. Typically, phones have an approximate 2-3 useful life. Yes, I have had phones last much longer and phones that didn’t make it past 1 year. Luck of the draw.

Reminder to all, feel free to discuss phone models, but leave out product links/sales links or they will be deleted as spam.

I rarely see 8 year old phones.

Mostly because the batteries don’t last that long and the cellular networks change meaning if you use it as a phone, at least in the US, at 8 years they will likely cut your phone use off.

Saying that the iphone 6 is a lemon because you bought used is very strange. 50$ is a very cheap repair so if the shop says that will get it working, why not?

For you, you are used to the Apple way. You should shop for another Apple.

      Hey there,
I’ll recommend you Samsung – cheap ones, and long lasting. My prevoius was Samsung and I used it about 6 years. Since 5 years I am using Huawei and it is a real soldier, believe me 🙂 …

For a cost-effective and reliable phone, consider budget-friendly Android models like Xiaomi Redmi, Samsung Galaxy A series, or Motorola Moto G series. Alternatively, you can explore mid-range or older iPhone models such as iPhone SE (2nd gen), iPhone 7, or iPhone 8. Refurbished or certified pre-owned phones can also be a more affordable option. Look for deals, compare prices, and ensure software support for a few years.
