Block sending to specific email?

By pbtoms ·
We are running Exchange 5.5 on a 2000 server. We have a situation in which I have been asked to block email to and from a specific email address. I used the IMS message filter to block incoming email from this person, but can't figure out how togo the other way. Is there a way to set it up so that email sent to a certain email address from inside our company will not go through? It would be best if it were invisible (as with the Message Filter), but not completely necessary. We can block the entire domain, if that's the only way to do it, but would prefer to block only the single user. Thanks!

Block sending to specific email?

To configure your Exchange Server so that all of the users in your organization cannot send SMTP e-mail messages to a specific address, create a custom recipient and set delivery restrictions for that recipient:

1. Create an SMTP custom recipientthat uses the e-mail address that you want to prevent users from sending SMTP e-mail messages to.

2. In the custom recipient properties, click the Delivery Restrictions tab, and then perform either one of the following steps:
a. Under Reject messages from, click List, and then either add everyone in the local Recipients container or add a global distribution list (DL) to the Reject messages from list.
b. Under Accept messages from, click List, and then add a single user to the Accept messages from list.

3. Ensure that the display name for the user is the same as the SMTP address (for example, someone@microsoft.com).

4. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Custom recipients options, click to select the Hide from address book check box.

After you perform these steps, if a user in your organization sends mail to the SMTP address, the user receives a non-delivery report (NDR).

Good Luck,

Block sending to specific email?

I had found the directions listed in "Answer 1", the problem is that that procedure returns an NDR that says the email is blocked. Is there a way to do it "invisibly", so the users don't know they're restricted? I'm guessing not, but hoping maybe? (Answer 1 will be 'accepted', I just want to leave it open in case there's another way...)
