Blocked a URL and Now Can't Unblock It

By wsmm ·
When our niece was living with us, I needed to block some sites from her. One of the sites was myspace.com. Now that she's gone I'm trying to open up the sites I blocked. Problem is I don't remember how I blocked certain sites. One is myspace.com, I can't get it unblocked. If I do a ping on myspce.com it points to 127.0.0.1. I know that is the local host redirect number. myspce is not in my host file which is in I386, running Windows XP home. I did locate the IP address of 216.178.38.116 in the host file and I still can't get to myspace.

Thanks,
Bill

re: The host file

The host file which Windows uses isn't located in the I386 folder. That's a backup folder. The real one should be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and it's probably a hidden system file.

Do you have any other software installed, such as SpyBot, ZoneLabs, McAfee Firewall, etc..., which can block web sites? How about Google or Yahoo Toolbars? They can block sites.

Without knowing your exact setup, all we can do is throw out guesses.

So as with Vista.
Adminstr abolish the fire wall.
I know what it is a muddle.
lot of difense sometimes can harms, but it can and goes to the nerves.
In any case the problem is in the fire wall and administrator.
Or a classic problem of serious recognition of network connections, especially if you drajv in XP.
And that could happen DASE.
We wish you luck in resolving the problem
