Blocking attachments with Exchange 5.5

Is it possible to block attachments, such as .vbs attachments on MS Exchange Server 5.5?

Also is it possible to block specific outside addresses?

Thanks
Greg

it's not possible to block attachments using exchange 5.5 without a 3th party software like mimesweeper.

it' is possible to block outside adresses.
Check the MS KB: Article I Q265293, Q266686 and 268163.

You can use ScanMail for Exchange from Trend.
Is the best product we tested here.
We can block all extensions before any antivirus check.

Yes, but it has to do with your virus program not Exchange itself. The best virus program I have used for Exchange is Norton AV for Exchange. There are 2 keys in the registry that you will need to update. One (KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\NAVMSE\2.1\BlockingPolicy\Attachment) will remove the attachment, the other (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\NAVMSE\2.1\BlockingPolicy\Message) will delete the entire message without delivering it. I usually do both. If you do not have an AntiVirussolution for your server I would reccomend this one. This change to the registry is kind of tricky. You can get complete details at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/361fc4a260e563b1882568180069e1c0/c683654551d5f68188256a220026a639?OpenDocument

Good Luck!!

Sorry, I forgot part of your question. The answer is yes. Go to the Connections container for the site that you wish to block an address for and open the properties for Internet Messaging Service. Go to the Delivery Restrictions Tab. Here you can select specific addresses or entire domains to allow or deny delivery from.
