blue screen of death

By pbgerrard ·
My Compaq Presario Desktop 7000 series with geforce 2 video card gives a blue screen when returning from sleep mode sometimes. At night, I turn off the monitor and leave it alone. When I turn on the monitor in the morning and move the mouse to getit out of sleep mode, a completely blue screen appears, with a gray rectangle at about the middle of the screen. There is absolutely no text. As I said I have a geforce 2 video card, Windows ME, and Norton Anti-Virus. I read that with Win XP the antivirus and video card combination could cause problems, so I post that information specifically. What can I do to fix this?

I've experienced too many problems with sleep mode/standby. I don't even bother with it anymore. I turn my monitor off at night and I turn it on in the morning and I have no probs...even weeks in between reboots. The most power your system will be using will be for fans anyways (your drives are not being accessed).
Configure the computer to run without the sleepmode and then see if there is a difference.
Good luck!

Mike

Just kill your monitor before you go to sleep.

I agree with bohicam1. I never use sleep mode or screen savers. I simply adjust the screen properties to turn off the monitor after a specified time period and have never had problems. You can adjust this under Display Settings->Screen Saver->EnergySaving Features.

Enjoy,
