Blue Screen of Death

By aulfinstar ·
I noticed that when I first installed vista that it works fine. When I allowed SP2 to be installed it imediately caused the problem. So I said to myself uninstall the service pack and I did. Since I have done that and not allowed any more installs my computer has worked great. This was all after reinstalling XP on a new HD and then reinstalling the Vista Home Premium. Also after buying an HP recovery disc kit. Does anyone have any answers to this problem? The only other thing I can tell you is that the BSD was a 9f.

Well, to begin with, Vista doesn't have any SP2. So, whatever you installed wasn't for that system. It does, however, have an SP1 and if your system components don't meet minimum system requirements for it, yes... it will BSOD on you.

Have you run hardware diags?

Assuming hardware is OK, then the most likely culprit are specific device drivers.

While I am no fan of Vista, it does a very good job of logging and tracking what caused the failure, (Windows Event Viewer and Reliability Monitor).
