boot up

By LynnG1201 ·
A PC I worked on recently had a virus. I cleaned it but now when I boot up it always shows the screen that asks do you want to boot up NORMAL - SAFE MODE.

Virus help

by TimMitchell In reply to boot up

When you say that you cleaned it up, did you remove the infected files, or did you actually have run virus scan software to eradicate the entire problem? If you only removed infected files, you may still have traces of the virus even though it's not apparent (particularly with worm-type virii). Assuming you used a commercial virus scan package: check the fine print... does it check the master boot record for viruses? If not, you might consider dropping $30 on a fresh version of Norton or McAfee. Finally, check the msconfig utility (Start --> Run --> msconfig (ENTER). This is a handy utility that modifies your startup environment; make sure that it is not set to boot Safe Mode by default. If none of this works, you may have unrecoverable registry issues, and you know what that means... still have your Windows CD?

Hope this helps....
