Boot up Loop

By bugz3 ·
I have a system running win 2000 that will not boot up. The system boots to the banner screen and then reboots itself and continues in this fashion. I don't have a repair disk. I attempted to run ERD without the disks but I was not successful. Iattempted to run the recovery console and ran the fixboot command with no luck. I don't want to completely reinstall 2000 where as I would lose all of my data. Any help would be appreciated.

Since you can boot to dos prompt, try looking at the boot log file. See which drivers are causing the problem. Then remove that device or that driver that is causing the problem.

Did you try booting into safe mode and not loading any additional drivers. Sounds like a video driver problem.

This is more of a work arounf than a fix but slave the Drive into another pc and copy the data that you don't want to lose first. then you can edit your boot ini and other systems records and still have a backup copy of all your data

Was this an upgrade installation or a new install?
