booting issue on restart

The Vista sp2 laptop when restarting starts booting, the green progress bar flows, but after a minute the hard drive indicator light goes dark, and the progress bar continues, but never gets to the logon page. I force shutdown with the power button. when I press the power button again it goes the page with choices "safe mode", or "start windows normally".
I choose "start windows normally" and it starts perfectly.
Sometimes it has a problem when first starting, always when restarting, but "start windows normally" works every time.
I updated everything from the Lenovo website, used Ccleaner and Privazer.

So have you tried to repair the Vista install?

That is what you need to do here or at the very least check the hardware and the obvious thing there is the Hard Drive it may be going faulty.

Thanks for the reply.
What puzzles me is that there is never a problem booting when I click on "start windows normally".
How do you repair the vista install without reloading vista entirely?
