booting unix over lan

I currently tring to set-up a diskless system and I would like to boot unix over the network. I can get a lif volume to boot over the network using the bootptab file but I can not get unix to boot.

Depending on your LAN configuration. MY environment requires the client and server to be on the same segment (subnet).
Also will depend on router rules for your network environment.
Try net booting on the same segment first. Even on a simple private network using a hub, with no connection to your production network.
