Every time I go on vacation, my boss asks for my cell phone number so I can be reached. I tell her I don’t have a cell phone, which is true. So then she asks for my wife’s cell phone number. I said no way, what if she has the kids by the pool while I’m on the golf course, that would stress my wife out. Then I think, once she has her cell phone #, if I can’t be reached at home some weekend, she is going to call my wife again – again stressing her out.
I simply refuse to be so reachable. My feeling is that I’m on vacation to de-stress out and relax. I don’t want to worry about getting calls to put out fires. I have documented my work back in work and the whole team has access to it. I live to live not to work.
So would you freely give your Significant Other’s cell # out?
Any other good suggestions for me to tell the boss next time they ask?
