Broken AC Adapter?

By fallenbarbiedoll@googlema ·
I have a HP Compaq 6715s laptop. My adpater doesn't seem to be working anymore - whenever I plug it in a warning comes up saying "Smart AC adapter power output is too low for this computer". If I wiggle the cable that goes into the laptop around enough it eventually works, but only for a few minutes or until the angle of the plug is changed. It won't charge or run on AC power -- is there anything I can do? Or do I need to buy a new adapter?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had laptop charge failures that were caused by the receiver on the laptop.

It sounds like the root cause of your problem is the place you are plugging into on the laptop. To test this, try a different charging adapter. The repair shop should have one handy. If theirs works, buy the adapter. If it doesn't, have them repair the plug receiver on the laptop itself.

Do a full backup before you do this. It is likely that the shop will reload the HDD even if you ask them not to.

Good luck!

Adapter jack on system board

by mjd420nova In reply to Broken AC Adapter?

The jack on the system board has broken loose from its connections. This has become a real headache for many users and the only cure is to get it fixed. This would require a knowledgable tech to disassemble the unit and replace or resolder the connections. The cure I use is to place a female connector on a short lead that gets soldered to the board. This eliminates the same thing from happening again and allows you to continue using the same adapter.
