Browser question

Locked

by wayoutinva ·

Does anybody know what setting could cause certain browsers not to show text on certain sites. For instance when I come here in Avant Browser or Slimbrowser I am unable to see either the forum posts or the article posts. But if I use IE6, Firefox or Opera they show up just fine. It only hhappens on my computer so there has to be a setting somewhere that i am missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Its funny I see everything else but the posts thenselves..whether its the forum posts or the article posts..its completely blank. Both Avant & Slimbrowser use the IE engine..IE shows the posts..and I never have changed the character encodings on either one

URL Filter blocking iFrames?

by deepsand ·

In reply to Yes I have checked..

The fast that IE and FF both properly render this site strongly suggests that it is the particular instances of Avant and Slimbrowser on the machine in question that are to blame.

I suggest that you compare all settings for both browsers with those on a machine where the problem does not occur.

Some browsers simply do not support everything like IE. Check the browsers home page for compatibility issues.
On that note, make sure you are using the latest edition of the browser.
Trying to use the browser on a different computer is a great idea, but if the browser default settings come disabled in the same manner it may not help. You best bet is to use a browser that you know works, and use the other browsers for everything else.

With Slimbrowser it used to work..now it does not..Avant was a new installation..no changes made..IE is version 6…Would there possibly be a reg entry for the iframe…One other addition is the inability to play newsclips from foxnews in Slimbrowser but okay in IE..go figure..I will try exporting the reg settings from 1 machine to the other to see if that fixes it.
Thanks

Which Registry entries?

by deepsand ·

In reply to Well

Unless you are absolutely certain that you know each and every entry used by the browser(s) in question, and that said entries are not used by any other application, you risk corrupting the Registry Hive of the target machine.

If you simply export the Hive from one machine to the other, you will be in much deeper waters than you are now.

In any event, make sure that you have both an emergency boot diskette or CD, along with a full backup of the Registry Hive of the target machine before you proceed.

I looked for any specific registry settings pertaining to Slimbrowser & could not find any..so that option went right out the window..I matched up all of the settings from a machine that has no problems and it still does not work…
