I have recently installed a new server machine to upgrade a current workgroup. It also acts as a PDC. My machines are authenticating fine, and I have a .bat file that connects to a few shared folders on that server; however, I cannot access that domain thru network neighborhood. I currently have five machines logged on, and only one of them lists all the machines on the domain. The other four computers have the folders mapped correctly and I can access those folders, but the other computerson the domain do not show up in network neighborhood, and when I go to entire network, and try to select that domain to list the computers currently connected I recieve the message that “no more connections can be made at this time because there areas many connections as this computer can accept at this time.”

    Help Please!

The answer is in your question: You have “upgraded a Workgroup”. Workgroups and Domains do not mix on NT (or Windows). Get rid of your workgroups, put everybody in the domain only.

UWE is quite right in the domain issue. but it doesn’t sound like a domain issue, sounds more like a licensing issue, check the licensing, I suggest you go to the PDC and in the control panel go to licensing and make sure it’s set for PER SERVER andthe appropriate settings are in place.

In addition to the first two responses, make sure only your NT Domain Controllers are allowed to become Browse Masters. Make sure all other machines are set to Disabled. I have a problem once where a rouge Win95 laptop continually ended up with Browse Master and the Net Neighborhood slowly dwindled to nothing…

Win95, 98, NT, 2000 can all be set to Automatic or disabled and start in the Automatic. Set any workstations to Disabled.

One of the client machines contains an Alpha processor, and it had become the browse master, My domain didnt seem to like that at all.
        Thanks

In order for the PCs to show up in network neighborhood, they must:

Have file and print sharing installed under network properties

Be a member of the same workgroup and preferrably with the same workgroup name as the domain name.

If the PDC will authenticate the nodes fine but you dont see no one in the network neighborhood, open up network neighborhood properties and recheck all or everything that you need to see if all of the machine or nodes are communicating right protocolwise or anything that you could have missed. With regards to “no more Connections”, thats a licensing issue. so go to comtrol panel, License and see what you had missed.
