BSOD re printer sharing

By Garfunkle ·
I am using Win 98 and running Questa oil and gas dos based program. It will print to Laser Jet 4 okay. Then when using QuickBooks the printer will not work causing BSOD to pop up. Back to Questa and print option comes up that says there is a printer sharing problem and offers two options to select Dos based printer program OR Windows based printer program. I have downloaded HP's drivers for the LJ4 but this did not cure the problem. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

It sounds like Quickbooks is causing the printer driver to crash, which then makes it unavailable to anything until a restart has occurred, so the Questa program will not be able to access the printer either. What version of Quickbooks is it, and is it using the "quickbooks internal print driver" or just Windows drivers?

Thank you for your reply. Actually it is any Windows program (Excel, Word et al) that causes a conflict. It knocks out the printer ports from recognition as well until reboot. The Quickbooks is Premier Edition 2003 and even though I have downloaded HP drivers, it appears to be using Windoze drivers. Any solution you can imagine other than getting another computer and running the Questa on one and everything else on another??
