built-in sound card driver

by maxwell edison In reply to built-in sound card drive ...

Greetings,

First of all, don't confuse your sound Driver with your BIOS version. They're really not related. Thr driver for your on-board sound should be on the CD (or disk) that came with your motherboard. If you don't have that CD, go to the motherboard manufacturer's web site to get the latest one. (AWARD is the BIOS manufacturer, not the motherboard manufacturer.) You may have an Intel board, an ASUS, an ABIT, or so on. Look on the board itself. There may be a logo and/or name.

You do, however, have to make sure that the on-board sound is enabled in your BIOS. Go into the BIOS upon boot up, and look for the enable/disable sound. Also, there may be a jumper on the motherboard itself that enables the sound. That should be pointed out in the motherboard manual. (Again, if you don't have one, you should be able to download a manual from the manufacturer's web site.)

If the sound is enabled in the BOIS and jumpered enabled on the board, Windows 2000 should have an acceptible generic driver to get it going. If not, the motherboard manufacturer's web site is your best bet.

Good luck,

Maxwell
