Burning CD's...Software or Hardware Fix?

By ezeze5000 ·
I have a Philips CD-R/RW with Easy CD Creator 4.
Is there a way to write CD's so older CD Drives can read them? Disks that you buy or get in the mail can be read by them, but not the ones I burn.
There must be a way to burn disks that older Drivescan read.
Do I need software or different hardware?

Is there a work around or something I can change to be able to do this?

I have a lot of old DOS games I would like to burn to CD, but I need the older drives to be able to read them.

Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

Why not just get a new CD Drive? They can be had for less than $50. Or better, use your CD-R drive to play the CDs

The problem is the hardware on the old drives.

Experiment with different brands of CD-R disks.

I stocked up on 650MB "green" disks when the local stores were closing them out so that I could "maximize" compatability.

Make sure that you close the disk, and not just the session when recording disks for older systems.

From time to time, the Computer Geeks (www.compgeeks.com) and PC Liquidator (www.pcliquadator.com) have 650 MB blanks for sale.

What older CD-rom drive is in question here? Your Older CD-rom drive, one at work, or a friends? Most Cd-rom drives will already read any CDR that is burned with any CD burner. The only exception are many CD-Rom drives older than 12x, that just may not have the laser intensity to pick up music or data tracks off of a CDR. Make sure that you are not putting your data onto a CDRW, and then attempting to open up what is on there on another CD-rom drive....you will find this difficult, if not impossible.

Another side note if everything else above does not pertain at all is to invest in a better grade CDR disc. I know Sony and Memorex make CDRs that have a better burnable surface for using with older CD-rom drives....lighter on the bottom is usually a litle better.

I will burn software at a slower speed if I know it will be used in an older system. Also, easy cd creator has this option to format the cd....never format the cd!
Good luck!
