Hope someone can help me!
I have a HP ZD8000 series laptop running windows xp. I have just spent out on a new screen to replace a fautly one and a day afterwards the graphics card has given up.Both of these problems appear to be known hardware issues and the graphics card is almost certainly to do with overheating.
Is there any way to run the laptop in full software video mode? On booting the splash screen displays and I have had it running in full view in safe mode so I’m just looking for a way of disabling the graphics card and running the laptop in software video mode (I know it will look rubbish but I just want to get it working again). I shall try it again tomorrow as for some reason it worked for about an hour this evening then gave up again.
I cannot get it to load safe mode now and it hangs with the last dialogue line shown as being…system32\drivers\btkrnl.sys (I’m assuming this is a graphics driver?).
BTW I’ve tried an external monitor but that shows the same as the laptop display.
Oh and I’ve also tried the ‘Enable VGA Mode’ option on the F8 Startup menu. The graphics card does not show as an option in bios.
