    cable broadband connection

    Locked

    by ramanandas ·

I have two laptops before me, one is a an acer 3002lci, the other a gateway.
I also have a time warner dsl cable …

Now while the acer connects to the net easily without my having to do anything, the gateway, despite being a more expensive machine etc, just refuses to connect…can anyone please help me? Have tried all kinds of stuff on the network connections…and oh, BTW, sometimes, I get a msg saying ‘windows system error, there is an IP address conflict with another system on the network’this comes on even when I have the cable unplugged for use with the acer, which I am using now…

    thanks
    Ram

A few things to look at

First, if you are just unplugging the cable from one system while on, and plugging it into another, the router may have the wrong IP address assigned to the new system. This may be why you are receiving a IP conflict.
Try opening a command prompt and running IPCONFIG /RELEASE and then IPCONFIG /RENEW
See if that helps with he conflict issue.

Now, along with network settings, you may need to set your Internet Proxy. Usually it is left blank (not even auto detect), but sometimes it may need to be set, especially if it hooks up at a place that uses a proxy.
The setting will be in your browser.

Between these, you should be able to connect.

Oh, also, sometimes on my router, I need to reboot i when adding another system, not always, but once in a while.
