Calendra and SUSE Linux installation

By vijays2000 ·
I have installed Red Hat linux on no. of machines and have got no problem with it ,but my experience with Suse and Calendra linux was very bad.
I am having an HCL busybee box at my place with configuration:-
1) Cyrix MMx 233Mhz.
2) 32 Mb ram
onboard display and snd card.
when i try to install other 2 linux just after installation starts the screen goes blank and moniter led starts blinking, I have even tried Calendra on Compaq proliant 1600 but i have landed yp with same difficulty.
Whatcould be the reason or have to be contend with Red Hat only.

What's wrong with RH? Are you thinking we are creating a second Microsoft by using RH?

On the other hand, it could be just your hardware problem. Try installing Suse and Calendra on PC with a display card that is not "onboard". (Always hated that word).

Cheers

For your kind information the compaq proliant 1600 server is not having onboard (which you hate) display card. So hardware problem is out of ?? because same is installed with RH and worked fine is there any setting that is required.

I know that this doesn't seem like much of an answer, but I would try downloading a newer version of the Caldera and SUSE distributions. As far as I can remember, both distributions have a graphical installer, while Red Hat has a text-based installer. What it sounds like to me is that the power management kicks in on the the other two distribution's installations. A newer version of each would probably negotiate the APM settings better.

Since your question is so old, you might as well just reload the latest versions of all software, and you'll have a new set of problems to deal with. Heck, update all your hardware and operating systems while you're at it. Have a real party.

I could me mistaken, but I believe that
Caldera 2.4 eDesktop had a 64 Meg Requirement
for the installer. I'm not sure about SuSE.

Either way, what video card are you actually
using (or chipset)? I have had problems with
the SiS and ATI RagePro chipsets. Both have
presented similar problems.
