Call of Duty Won't Start in Windows 98SE

By rovoco ·
Game loads, displays splash screen, but won't start up after selecting single player. Ran fine several months ago on the same PC. CD spins up OK, but screen remains blank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It did

It ran a couple of months ago so unless something drastic has changed then I would assume it would meet the requirements

Minimum requirements are fully met.

Game has run on this PC before with no problems. Only change is the addition of
Solo Antivirus for Win 98, which works great, by the way.

PC has much more than minimum requirements.

Remember, I said the game ran on this PC just fine, several month ago. You may be correct about the Antivirus program taking resources that are needed for the game. I am
inclined to believe that I may have a memory module that is bad, so will check them all.

I would check the settings in the AV.

and see if anything in there would stop the game from running.

it may just be that with that AV running, the game may not get enough memory to function, despite the claim that the AV is light on resources.

Were you running a different AV before?

Used AVG Antivirus when game ran well before.

You may be on the right track concerning the
Solo Antivirus I am using. The game ran fine when I was using AVG, but I had to move
to Solo when AVG no longer supported Win 98.
Solo seems to be very good, but I like AVG a
whole lot more. Never had a problem with AVG.

Try another

Optical CD drive. You could also try a CD drive cleaning kit for tray-based CD players or for caddy and auto feed drives, make sure that you get the right one as they are different.

Also try this

Give your CD a clean. I normally use a CD Cleaning Kit but it can be achieved using a soft lint free cloth. By inserting one finger in the spindal hole and another on the edge, gently move the cloth radially outwards from the middle.
