Can I repair bad links from email to web

By lorand ·
When reading my Techmails and I click on the blue link to go to the web page, the page times out and gives the message "504 Gateway time out occurred: server unreachable Please contact your administrator.
Is there a corruption at my end? or what? This only occurs on links from outlook express, I can connect to the Techrepublic Webpage and read the same document from there. It would just appear that the links do not work.

Can I repair bad links from email to web

Here is what MS has to say about 504 errors:

"The server, while acting as a gateway or proxy, did not receive a timely response from the upstream server specified by the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) (for example, HTTP, FTP, LDAP) or some other auxiliary server (for example, DNS) that it needed to access to complete the request. [HTTP/1.1]"

Are you connected to the internet through a proxy server?

How about Java / Virtual Machine?
Is it installed and enabled?

If you are on a network, are outgoing Java requests blocked?

Here is a link from the June 30th XP mail.

Remove the space between ESv- and sI49q when pasting the link.

Check your blocked cookies list. Is cl or cnet or zdnet blocked?
That can cause problems with TR links.

There are a number of IE OE link issues but the symptoms do not match your problem.
Still, check out this site:

If this doesn't help, please post a link that does not function and let us know what article it links to, or the Tech Mail that it is from.
