Can I still use my old Windows 10 apps on Windows 11?

    by matthewcabrera323 ·

    Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 and I’m wondering if my old Windows 10 apps will still be compatible. I would appreciate any help or information that the community can provide.

Specifically, I’m wondering if I can still use my old Windows 10 apps on Windows 11 without any issues. Are there any compatibility concerns that I should be aware of when using these apps on Windows 11?

If anyone has experience with using Windows 10 apps on Windows 11 and can provide any insights, I would be grateful for your help. Please feel free to share your experiences and suggestions in the comments below.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Your question is difficult to answer definitively. Are those applications bought directly or are they designed specifically for your use? The only person who could say for certain is the application author. You didn’t specify what type of applications or versions which makes it more difficult to answer.

As a reminder to all, don’t post internet links.

Between my brother’s office and our own PCs we have yet to see a failure.

I’m sure something is out there that will fail but we haven’t found it.

In general, most of the apps that worked on Windows 10 should also work on Windows 11. However, there may be some apps that are not compatible with Windows 11 due to changes in the operating system.

Before upgrading to Windows 11, it’s recommended that you check with the app developer to confirm whether their app is compatible with Windows 11. You can also check Microsoft’s website for a list of known compatibility issues and solutions.

Keep in mind that some older apps or drivers may not be compatible with the newer operating system, so it’s possible that you may need to update or replace certain apps or hardware after upgrading to Windows 11.

Generally speaking, the majority of the applications that ran on Windows 10 should also run on Windows 11. However, because of changes to the operating system, some applications might not work with Windows 11.

It is advised that you speak with the app developer to ascertain whether their programme is compatible with Windows 11 before upgrading to that operating system. For a list of known compatibility issues and fixes, visit the Microsoft website.

Remember that updating to Windows 11 may require you to update or replace some older software or drivers because they may not be compatible with the newer operating system.

Hi! I want to remind everyone that the “tradition” in “MS & sons” 🙂 and the strength of the company declared at the beginning, with which it conquered the market, was that “all applications that run on one version of the operating system will also be able to run on next versions”. It was a promise that was kept up to a point, but which began to be broken recently. This seems like a paradox, because science and technology advance by assimilating the knowledge of the past, not stuck in the old and simple things. Obviously, commercial interests are the explanation… But I as a customer, will think twice in the future before buying something from someone who cheats me, constantly forcing me to spend money on something new that in many cases doesn’t work for me satisfies, being sometime qualitatively inferior to the previous version.

        What is this about “recently”?

With every version there has been breakage of apps.

The last one I encountered was for a good reason. The old app used EMS (an antique memory system) and Microsoft had to remove EMS for security reasons. App won’t run on today’s Windows.

        Again, we saw breakage from Windows 1, 2, 3, 95, 98, Me, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 and now 11. And I didn’t mention the NT lineage.

Even with such breakage Windows is doing OK except they never understood the mobile market. They let that get away from them over a simple issue. I was there. What was it? In Windows Mobile you couldn’t put apps on your home screen. Microsoft at the time was thinking about the carriers that wanted to remain in control of the home screen.

Then came Apple and Android and blew that idea up.
