Can I telnet to a printer ?

First things first, do you have the printer documentation or even the printer's spec sheet?

Yes, you can telnet to some printers. However these are generally your high end network printers. You can't just buy any old HP, Lexmark or Epson at your local Walmart and then expect to telnet with it.

Now obvious your talking about a network printer since you mention a mac address. If you gave the EXACT printer you speak of the help provided would be much more useful to you.

*ALL* network printers I've ever configured which includes Lexmark, Epson and Xerox models -- I could VERY EASILY view the MAC address without anything more advanced than either printing a demo/test sheet (Lexmark and Xerox printers have the config info including MAC address right on the test sheet you print from the printer contol panel) or you just go to the printer directly (re: physically) and look through the network menus and you'll be able to view the MAC information that way.

Finally you could just use any number of network discovery programs that will scan the IP address and show you the MAC info for you.

Later.
