Can not open link in Outlook Express

By stergios_nik ·
Hello.

A user in our company is having a strange problem. If he receives an email message that contains a link i.e. "Please click here www.yahoo.com in order to visit Yahoo", although the link is active when he clicks on it, the Internet Explorer does not open the link's page on a new window. Actually, the link is not working at all.

In order to solve this problem the user must right click on the link and to use the "copy shortcut" option. Then he opens internet explorer and pastes the URL on the address bar.

Any ideas how to make this mail message links to open in a new window? Is it a configuration issue?

Thank you in advance.

First, I know this is dumb, but have you tried restarting? That often is a quick fix for a quirky bug like this.

Second, I'm not sure but I know in some other office applications you need to hold control while you click in order to visit a link. A way to get around this is to go to tools>options>"mail format" tab and uncheck the box that says "Use microsoft word to format emails" That of course relies on the fact that its word's settings that is causing the difficulty

There may also be some sort of problem with the format which you're receiving the email. I'm not completely sure, but if you're receiving it in strictly text it may not work? Possibly see if you can receive your email in html format and that may help as well.

Good Luck.

Have you checked the Tools > Options > Read > International Settings configuration? Checking / Unchecking the Use default encoding for all messages may do the trick.
Also have you checked for Virus?? :)

SOLUTION: Disable this setting in Internet Explorer 6.0:
Tools->Internet Options -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Enable third party browser extensions.
