small network, 3 PCs. 2 can see all 3 machines and connect to the internet, 1 can only see itself and cannot connect to the internet. All in same workgroup. machine 3 connected to internet direct to DSL modem, but now on router it cannot. My connection status reads quantity of packets sent with 0 for packets recieved. changed cable end on cat5. Tried dhcp and Static IP, also tried different network cards – all show lights working. can ping loopback but cannot ping any other machine on LAN. All 3 machines are W2K Pro. I tried to ping from the “problem child” machine to ping others and could not. I’ve tried the reverse. After checking the line and ports with my lap top all checked ok. So I changed the network card for the 5th time. this timeinstead of using 3com I used and old Accton 1661 10 bit. Everything worked great! Now after connecting successfully for a week I am back to the same issue. I used the same cable and it had been connected to the network and internet prior. I had theissue using the cable, then it worked after changing cards, now the issue is back with the working cable and the working card. can send packets but not receive packets according to status monitor in W2K network connection. The nic worked fine in other machines as did all the nics. I have unistalled and installed the cards and drivers several times. I have tested all the router ports with my laptop. All work. The 3 machines all saw eachother up until Sunday. now this one machine has reverted to being a “problem child” after having worked with teh accton 1661 nic. I’ve tried 3 different 3com modle an intel and the accton. 3com and Intel being PCI and the accton being ISA.
