Can Win2k support more than 10 users?

    Locked

    by jabbar ·

I have a network at work, which have 20 PC. My server is running under Win2k, and I want to know if there is a way to connect more than 10 PC at a shared file. In the Management Console, I found a folder called “shared folders”. In this folder, I can allow more than 10 users, but when I want to connect the eleven Pc to my server, nothing (LOOOOL).

Please, I don’t want to buy Win2k server (too expensive!). What can I do???

I think you’re stuck with things the way you are, my friend. 2k Pro has a limit of 10 user connections at a time, and only Server can do what you want. In Server, you can buy as many “CAL”s as you need, which are client access licenses for allowing X amount of users to access the server, per the CAL’s you purchased… You’ll have to buy server if you want to be legit. This is for a home network? If so, I don’t hardly see your need for 20 PCs, nor the electric bill… There are better ways, withVMWare!!!!!

Only server ediitions will lift the 10 connection limit.

However, if you are adventurous. You can move your server over to linux. Which is free basically and there are no licensing fees.

But for 799 you can buy a 2k srvr license with 10 cals. Now I am not “advocating” this part. But you can just up the cals without buying them.

Your not talking about RH pro are you. Cuz even though I am one of those R**E guy’s, I would’nt advocate buying the pro edidtion for $129.

All you get with it really is support. Hell, this is the first time since 5.1 that I actually spent the money for the distro. I have not been able to download RH 9, all of the mirror sites are clobbered. (But I get it tommorow shipped right to work)

Or are you talking about Cal’s, (I can’t imagine why though, I am pretty confident that you know that cal’s can’t be put on a 2k pro box and that it has a 10 connection limit. That is part of microshaft 101.)
