Can you disable signatures in Outlook 2K

By Ivan the Terrible ·
I need to find a way in Outlook 2000 to disable the signaure option on +60 PC's. You can manually set it to none, but that would mean visiting all PC's. Or asking users to remove the disclaimer text in their signature file!

Another problem is that users will still want to add their name/company address/phone numbers etc to the end of their outgoing e-mail's so I cannot disable it completely?

I have implemented a company approved disclaimer message that will be attached at the end of all outgoing e-mail's, it's very important that all e-mail's have the correct message.

Can you disable signatures in Outlook 2K

I don't have an answer for removing the signature file of each user. I have a solution that might help you with adding the disclaimer for each message. Unfortunately it requires you to touch each PC. There probably is an Exchange administrator solution that would better fit your needs.

You'll need to go to the Visual basic editor (Alt-F11) of Outlook. Click on the Project Explorer and enter the following code for the ItemSend event:

Private Sub Application_ItemSend(ByVal Item As Object, Cancel As Boolean)
Dim strDisclaimer As String
strDisclaimer = "This is a Disclaimer"

Item.Body = Item.Body & strDisclaimer

End Sub

This is a simple example. You could make it more complex by accessing another document file on the server to get the message source.

It gets more complicated if the user's e-mail format is HTML because when you append text, it automatically reverts to the default editor format. You would need to use an inspector to get the mail format so you could retain it.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

Correction "Click on Project Explorer" should read "Click on ThisOutlookSession in Project Explorer"

Sorry About That. I was typing faster than I was thinking.

Yes you will have to visit each PC. Or you can use a 3rd party program that lets configure Outlook profiles remotley.
