Can you use a genericXP disk to restore a Compaq Presario 916US?

By janiceud ·
I am trying to help out the assist. manager at work. Her laptop is Compaq Presario 916US running Windows XP. There are so many things wrong with it that a system restore seems like the best way to fix it. However, she has no idea where her disks are. Can I use a multi user licensed XP disk to restore this or should we just order a new one from HP?

It would get confusing.

At any answer that I gave I would have seen who was answering the question.

Since the Site Redesign things have got considerably harder but after all I only want to get noted in TR OL for the most posts so it's OK.

You need the same version of XP to do this

So a Volume License Version will not accept the Product Key for a Home or Pro Versions of XP.

If you plan on using a company product key you can do as you like but if you want to use the Product Key on the COA you'll need the same version of XP as is currently installed.

916US only lists XPH as OS

A corporate license install would most likely be XPPro. The license would not cover it.

There does not seem to be an option to create system restore cd's for that model.

You can order a system restore cd from HP.
