Cannot add network printer

hi. i'm trying to add a network printer onto an XP machine. the printer is connected to another XP machine on the network.
when i go to add a printer i can see the printer in the find a printer wizard but when i try to add it box appears asking me to enter the username and password to log into the XP machine which has the printer locally attached to it. so i type in the network administrator username and password and then after a while an error message comes up saying that windows is unable to connect to the printer and that the operation could not be completed.
please help.

Have you shared this printer across the network? It appears that NTFS permissions have not been applied to this printer.. therefore only users local to that pc are able to access it.
